The mountainous landscape of Sapa is renowned for its breathtakingly beautiful scenery and for playing host to a great diversity of highland ethnic minorities. In the Highland Village Adventure Trek you will visit some of the remote villages of the Sapa region, hiking over beaten paths between villages to access some of the most spectacular views the highland area provides. With three days of trekking and two nights in local homestays, this tour offers an authentic experience of the local highland people and the beautiful land they call home.

Detailed Itinerary
  Day 1: Overnight train to Lao Cai Station:   
In the evening you will be collected by our bus and English-speaking guide. You’ll be dropped off at Hanoi train station, from which you’ll alight your overnight train trip to Lao Cai station. Bring some snacks to nibble on and cards to play with as you enjoy the fun of a long train ride. Adjust your personal light to get some sleep to the gentle rhythm of the train.
  Day 2: Lao Cai – Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van - Homestay (B, L, D):   
From Lao Cai take your transfer about 40 minutes through gently winding road up to Sapa road. The views from the drive are just a preview to the stunning vistas awaiting you in the rest of Sapa. Once you arrive in Sapa Town you’ll have breakfast at a local restaurant before preparing for you adventure trek into the breathtaking Muong Hoa valley. Carefully tread winding paths and twisting trails to reach Lao Chai and Tavan village, where you’ll pay a visit to the Tay and Day tribes. Have a picnic lunch on the mountainside before continuing to the base of the valley. Immerse yourself in the spectacular landscape as your body is flooded with the adrenaline from your trek. In the evening there’ll be a cooking demonstration from the local people before your overnight in a local house.
  Day 3: Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai – Ban Ho – Homestay (B, L, D):   
Eat up at a delicious breakfast to fuel the morning’s trekking. You’ll set out for the Giang Ta Chai village, home to the Red Dao minority, distinguishable by their brightly dyed red headdresses. You’ll trek through the dense bamboo forest of Hoang Lien National Park. On the way you will pass by a cascading waterfall where you will have time to take a rest and enjoy the clear air and green surroundings. You will find a nice place to enjoy lunch. After first visiting Supan you will reach Ban Ho, the village of the Tay hill tribe. Take a rest before exploring the village and dinner with the locals. Overnight is spent in a traditional stilt house.
  Day 4: Sapa – Cat Cat – Sin Chai – Lao Cai – Overnight train to Hanoi (B, L):   
You rise at dawn with the villagers for a sunrise breakfast before heading back to Sapa town. Prepare for your last day of trekking. You first sneak through the market, already abuzz with activity, then continue to leave the busy town behind. After a couple of minutes, you will be following a rocky road leading downhill to Cat Cat village. Take a rest here before you trek downhill to get Sin Chai village, where you’ll might see the tribes people at work dying cloth, painstakingly embroidering patterns, tending the fields or huddled over a hunk of stone, attempted to carve figurines to sell at the market.

Spend the afternoon at your leisure to explore the town; take a wander around the town lake, explore the town markets, or walk up the stairs to Sapa’s beautiful flower gardens. Dinner is your choice before you are able to freshen up at a local hotel before beginning your transfer to Hanoi, first with the short drive to Lao Cai station and then the overnight train to Hanoi.
  Day 5: Hanoi arrival:   
Arrive in Hanoi at around 5h30 in the morning. You are picked up from the train station and taken to your hotel where your tour will end.

  • Breakfast, 1 night accommodation in a twin/double room and 1 night homestay in the local house with cooking demonstration

  • Return train tickets: Hanoi - Lao Cai – Hanoi (Oriental Express 4 soft sleeper A/C cabin)
  • Travel in an appropriate air-conditioned vehicle and/or a Jeep with an experienced safe driver

  • Frenshen up service (shower on the last day in Sapa)
