Cambodia travel guide

Many bus companies provide transportation between Phnom Penh and the provinces that have better road and connect with Phnom Penh. All buses are air-conditioned and equipped with Video TV, Wi-Fi for guests’ convenience and comfort. Their average travel speed is about 80 kilometers per hour. Bus stations are mostly located around Phsa Thmey (New Central market) area and Riverside.

There are some boat companies operating between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap or between Phnom Penh and Chau Doc. The departure time is normally 7.00 AM. Ticket shall be bought at least one-day advance for the assured seat but it is also available at location. All boats are equipped with air-conditioner, toilet and Video TV.  Enjoy your boating and you will get wonderful experience of spectacular scenery and authentic Cambodian villagers.

Train is available only from Phnom Penh to Battambang Province, and depart from Phnom Penh about 5AM or 6AM with travel almost full day.
Cambodia official currency is Riel (KHR) which you should have some in your pocket for small transactions. Besides, US Dollars are as commonly used as the Cambodian Riel and even Thai Baht is acceptable in many places. Within some areas most regularly visited by tourists (Siem Reap, Phnom Penh) USD is the commonly used currency even for low value transactions. Therefore, a helpful advice for you using debit cards to withdraw cash from local ATMs, backed up by a cash float of USD brought with you from home. Also, a good selection of low denomination USD bills (USD 1 and 5) are very useful for tipping and bargaining purposes. Please note that worn or ripped USD will not be accepted, so please ensure you bring clean, unmarked bills only.
Riel notes come in 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 5000, 10,000, 50,000 and even 100,000 denominations, but the distinctive red 500 Riel note is the most commonly used.
3.Power and plugs
Cambodia uses 220V with two round- or flat-pin plugs. Plus adaptors are often available at hotels, but we recommend bringing them with you - they are readily available in electronic stores at international airports worldwide

Vaccinations against a range of diseases are required for much of Southeast Asia. Please consult your GP and visit for details of the recommended vaccinations for the particular regions you will be visiting on your trip. Anti-malarial medication may also be required.

Internet access
Complimentary Wi-Fi internet access is available in most international standard hotels in Cambodia should you wish to bring laptops/tablets etc. Please note that there is hardly access onboard or in more remote homestay or lodge accommodation.
Mobile phones
Most international mobile phones will work in Cambodia with excellent signal and coverage but the most remote locations and you must pay very high charges. Instead, you can purchase a local SIM card on arrival. This is relatively inexpensive and your guide will be able to assist should this be of interest. If you plan to use your own mobile phone, it is highly recommend to contact your phone contract provider in advance to ask about service availability and costs for receiving and making calls during your time in Cambodia.
